Textural planting was chosen to reflect the fields of wheat and barley that surrounded his garden in the summer

Site Description
Hill Farm sits on one of the highest points near Framlingham surrounded by open fields and, as a result, the old garden was heavily divided up by a variety of conifer and evergreen hedges.
The site in total is approximately 3 acres of level ground and features a natural pond and a large cluster of converted agricultural buildings.
Directly in line with the front door and positioned at the heart of the garden was an old tennis court which badly needed renovation.
Along the northern edge of the garden was an old swimming pool which, at the time of our first visit, was being renovated. A local craftsman was constructing 2 serpentine walls to partially enclose the area and incorporate a pool house/sun room.
To the southern end of the garden was a large open paddock which was kept mowed but, at the time, was used for storage and very little else.
Design Brief
Having lived surrounded by thick evergreen hedges for many years, the client was keen to open the garden out to the countryside beyond, to take advantage of the rolling landscape and picturesque views.
Textural planting was chosen to reflect the fields of wheat and barley that surrounded his garden in the summer providing movement as it caught the breeze.
A number of seating areas were required to offer positions in which to sit and enjoy the sun at different times of the day.
