Thank you so much for my beautiful garden – I love it especially the colour of the paving slabs

Site Description
The back garden, to this 1960’s built bungalow is narrow and mean in size compared to the front. However it catches the sun and provides a sheltered, private space in which to spend time.
The area was laid to pink concrete slabs and featured a raised conifer bed and pool, both of which had ceased to be attractive or of use a long time ago.
A lovely old vine provided the only real point of interest in the garden.
There was a small change in level approximately 135mm high running adjacent to the back of the house; formed from concrete. This was further enhanced by a home made pergola which had neither strength nor beauty.
The original boundary fence had recently been replaced with close board fencing which drew attention to the limited space.
Design Brief
To create a secluded, colourful garden in which to entertain and relax.
The garden should be reasonably low maintenance but, provide opportunity to engage with it and feel involved in its future growth and development.
Give a warm feel to the space and make it feel less like a cold corridor and more like a courtyard garden.
Break up and disguise the boundaries that seemed to press in on the house and make the space claustrophobic.
To allow the client to look out of the window and enjoy the garden as a picture as well as an extension of the house.
